EMPOWER

Get connected to one another and to top business, governmental, and community leaders in the region that are vital to your success. Attend programs that enable you to develop both professionally and personally. Feel prepared to impact your place of employment and the community.

As a workforce development initiative of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber and the Chamber of Schenectady County, the GenNEXT council exists to attract and retain a strong talent pipeline throughout Tech Valley. The council serves as a catalyst to connect, develop and empower young professionals.

What makes us unique is ultimately what brings us together. GenNEXT provides people of all professions the opportunity to come together and share their ideas and vision for the future.

GenNEXT is a dynamic and diverse group of young professionals with the desire to build lasting important relationships, a willingness to learn and grow, and the enthusiasm and drive to get involved within the community.

Membership in GenNEXT is free and open to all Chamber members from both organizations. Not sure if your company is a member? Ask Robin Granger.

The GenNEXT Council has developed a video to highlight the many advantages for young professionals to work, live and play in Tech Valley. Click here to view it!

Executive Mentorship Program

Are you a business executive interested in mentoring a young professional? Are you a young professional interested in being mentored by a business executive? Then join GenNEXT's Executive Mentorship Program!

This program connects ambitious, young professionals with seasoned, high-level business executives charged with supporting them in their professional and personal development.

The logistics are simple: An executive mentor will be matched with a young professional and requested to meet with the mentee a minimum of five times during the course of the program.

Mentors are expected to share their knowledge and experiences, coach and guide their mentee, facilitate networking and provide a positive role model.

Mentees are expected to take responsibility for relationship, actively listen and ask questions, be prepared and maintain respect.

Suggested Activities
Below is a list of suggested activities that aim to connect, develop and empower young professionals. Use this as a guide and be creative when planning activities. We strongly encourage participation at future mentorship events as well as Chamber functions throughout the year.

  • Attend a Chamber function to network with other professionals.
  • Attend functions that provide exposure to regional assets such as cultural events, economic development programs or other social events.
  • Discuss a project or issue with your mentor/mentee and offer perspective based on professional experiences.
  • Attend an on-site business meeting.
  • Take a company tour with your mentor to learn about their organizational culture and work environment.
